Dock to the West

This is an older image that I apparently never got to. I drove by this location at Utah Lake last week and noticed that the dock had been removed. Noticing its absence reminded me that I had photographed it in the past. ( I even remember falling flat on my back due to ice while photographing it) I went back through my archive and found the image and decided it was time to give it some life…now that it has passed on.

Winter Clouds

It has been a couple years since I have taken my 4x5 out to Utah Lake. It has been too long. I was able to make it out almost every night for a week. Hopefully I can keep up the momentum. Needless to say I hope I have a few more pictures worth sharing in the next little while.

The Tale of Two Dogs

The eternal editing conundrum. When faced with two options that you consider to be good options and you really shouldn't keep both...what do you do? I like the form of the dog better in the first one but the reflection in the second one. I also like the snow covered peaks and the sky of the first one is very similar to another photo that I recently posted and also really liked. Maybe so similar that I can't use both. (reference here) Though the sky and the sun in the first balance very nicely with the dog. Either way, this dog was insane. This is ice and snow melt off and he kept jumping in over and over and over again. It was quite entertaining.

The Lamp-post

"It will not go out of my mind that if we pass this post and lantern either we shall find strange adventures or else some great changes of our fortunes."  - Lucy Pevensie

What held true for Lucy in Narnia has also held true for me at Utah Lake. Well...the strange adventure and change of fortune part. So far I have missed the talking animals and being made royalty part.

Carp Removal

Notice how the boat sits in the water with and without the daily load of carp. Approximately 10 ton of carp is removed daily from the lake in an effort to restore (or at least stabilize) the ecosystem.

Yes, I am aware of the idiocy of trying to shoot action on a speed boat with a 4x5!
