Profiling My Dad

How often does your dad turn 70? I figured a milestone like that was deserving of more than just one picture posted.

I decided to create a few portraits of my dad in honor of his 70th birthday. Here is one of my favorites.

Leica and Kids

Forget sucking on the thumb....

Many hands make light work. 

I was able to borrow and then shoot for the first time with a Leica camera at a baby blessing (kind of a christening) for my newest niece. Its a camera that has intrigued me for a long time and it was fun to finally work with it. Here are a few of the candids that I took. It is liberating in a way after shooting so much with large format cameras. So my wish list has expanded by one camera and hopefully in the future I will have more to share.

These were pictures of my newest niece at her baby blessing. (I should point out that she is no longer the newest niece, my older sister had a little girl about 10 days ago. I think I'm a little to far behind. Better late than never right?)

Lake Powell

One vacation I look forward to to every year is to Lake Powell. I love to hug trees as much as the next landscape photographer and I know that Lake Powell is a blight on all things that every environmentalist organization in the world stands for but despite that fact I will readily admit that I still love Lake Powell. We do basically the same thing every year. We even eat basically the same meals. Yet I never tire of the routine. It relaxes and invigorates me in a way few places can. Awake at sunrise and ski and board until breakfast. Throughout the rest of the day we play games, go tubing when the water is rough, wakeboard when the water is good, nap in the sun, read a good book, when a storm suddenly appears there is a mad rush to save and recover the boat and our belongings, put lifejackets on upside down and go out swimming behind the house boat, and the list goes on and on. I of course spend most of my time perched on the back of the boat with my camera avidly photographing just in case whoever I am photographing does not survive whatever they are doing. I would give all that I could to see what Glenn Canyon used to look like (The name of the canyon before it was dammed for those that are wondering) but there is also probably nothing that you could offer me to give up the memories I have made on these family excursions down to Lake Powell.

Another New Nephew

My little brother Damian and his wife Kim recently had their third child and while I was home for Tianna's wedding they asked if I would take a few pictures of him.His name is Taegen Jon. He was born on June 3rd so this is obviously not his newborn pictures but close enough.

Watering the lawn

Since we have a firm policy in Idaho of doing things the old fashioned way, watering the lawn is no exception. We flood irrigate the lawn and garden (Most of the lawn anyways. We flooded the basement one to many times so we limit the flooding now.) This was one of those rare times where work could become play. We could run around the lawn and splash and play to our hearts content. We have been passing this on to the next generation as much as possible. So while up for Tianna and B.J.'s wedding reception we decided to pull out the siphon tubes and have some fun...I mean get some work done. They were extremely grateful.

Tianna's Idaho Reception

I think I liked the Idaho reception a little more than the wedding day. It was definitely more laid back, which you could see in how Tianna & B.J. were acting and interacting, which resulted in my pictures feeling more laid back as well. I had more fun with them. Anyways here they are.

I never did find out if Brandon was praying for forgiveness for something he had done or something he was getting ready to do.
